Life Groups

Life Groups are what you make them- long-lasting or short, leisurely or intellectual, or all of the above! They are a wonderful way to grow and share life with other individuals at Aldersgate. We can help you get connected with a group, or if you don't see a Life Group of interest below, feel free to start your own!

Centering Prayer

Centering Prayer

Centering prayer is a silent prayer method that prepares us to receive the gift of God's presence. It is about forging a deeper relationship with God. Centering Prayer facilitates the movement from more active modes of prayer, verbal, mental, or effective prayer, into a receptive prayer of resting in God. It emphasizes prayer as a personal relationship with God. It is a discipline to foster this relationship by regular daily practice of prayer.

When you pray, go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. -Matthew 6:6

The Centering Prayer group meets every 4th Tuesday of the month from 9:30-10:45 am. All are welcome, including all denominations.

Aldersgate is a safe, level environment. Stay warm and dry while you walk.  Invite your neighbor or friends to come walk with you.

YOGA
All classes meet in the Media Center. Bring a yoga mat & towel to each class.

Tuesday & Thursday 9-10 am

Cost per class is $8.00, drop-in (no registration required). The class is gentle yet effective in strengthening capacities of breath, attention/focus, balance, overall strength and flexibility. Each movement is primarily centered around attention and breath, and will be appropriately adapted to the practitioner. This class is therapeutic in nature and welcomes all variations of bodies, minds, and levels of experience. The class includes standing, lying, and seated postures. The instructor will be able to help with any necessary modifications. The instructor has nine years of experience teaching yoga classes. She is currently undergoing a four year yoga therapist training in order to skillfully and appropriately apply the wisdom in the tools of yoga to further help individuals with general health issues that impose suffering. Feel free to contact the instructor Whitney Arvin at 812-296-6828 if you have questions about the class or are interested in a personalized yoga practice or individual session.

Tuesday & Thursday 10:30-11:30 am; Thursday 5:30-6:30 pm

Cost $10.00 per class, drop-in (no registration required). Bring a Yoga mat (mats are available in class if you do not have one). Yoga is a holistic approach to health and personal growth. You will feel better right away after your first practice, with a calmer mind and more relaxed body. Over time, regular practice will also address the deeper root of issues and resolve conditions that affect your well-being. My classes incorporate yoga poses to balance the body, as well as breathing and medication. I also teach private lessons for students interested in beginning a personal yoga practice, and I am licensed massage therapist practicing in Evansville. I look forward to working with you and with you great joy in yoga and life. You can find me and my yoga videos, recordings, and writing online. Please visit these sites and enjoy the free resources I’ve created or contact me (Zoe Sipes, experienced Yoga Teacher, Massage Therapist) at 812-250-9642 if you have questions.

Quilters & Friends

Quilters & Friends

We’re a group of friendly women who share a passion for quilting and sewing. We get together on Tuesday mornings at Aldersgate to create quilts and lap robes for our members, residents of nursing homes, and even for children. More than just quilters, our time together begins at 9:00am, followed by coffee around 10:00 and lunch at noon, so we’re serious about our fellowship, too!

We accept donations of cash, material, time and talents, and we’re always looking for new friends to join with us! If you love to quilt, sew, or just enjoy good fellowship, please stop by!

If we sound like your kind of group, we would love to have you join with us!
